Environment Grants for Environmental Science Students

As more and more people are becoming interested in environmental protection, a career in the field of environmental science is getting popular not only in the United States but also worldwide. One reason why many students are pursuing a career in such a field is due to the environment grant being offered by the government as well as the private sector.
Environmental science is an interdisciplinary field that integrates science with the study of the environment. A career in discipline field may include the fields of biology, chemistry, forestry, geology, environmental law and policy and geography. Many environmental scientists are now working to look for ways to address pollution, global climate change and depletion of natural resources. Such a career is so complicated that environmental scientists are very well respected in the academia.
To lure many students to take up environmental science, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established environment grants. EPA is responsible for protecting the environment by regulating the environmental impact of companies and industries and by educating the public on the importance of natural resources protection. EPA administers its own grants and is active in seeking for more environmental science students. The EPA Office of Environmental Education has many grants that aim to attract environmental science students to pursue a career in environmental management, as well as environmental policy. Meanwhile, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) offers grants to minority colleges. These grants’ main goals are to support the education of minority environmental science students.

Aside from EPA, the AmeriCorps is another organization that helps environmental science students. AmeriCorps is a government funded community service organization which aims to help poor students go to college. It has many projects which provide valuable experiences for individuals who plan to take up environmental science programs

Some colleges and universities also offer their own environment grant and scholarship. One is Willamette University in Oregon which in partnership with Green Corps, allows its environmental science graduate students to work at the grass root level, in exchange of monetary incentives. Another grant or scholarship opportunity is the Environmental Studies program of Connecticut College.

Many private organizations also offer environment grant. One organization is the Morris Udall Foundation which offers two college grants for students of environmental science programs. One grant is offered for undergraduate students enrolled in a general degree curriculum, while the other grant is for graduate students who are focusing on environmental policy. Another popular private sector organization is the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. It offers the Doris Duke Conservation Fellows Program to support the education of students who are involved in environmental conservation programs. Such a grant is offered in partnership with several universities including the following: Yale University, University of Michigan, Duke University, University of Montana, University of Wisconsin, University of California-Santa Barbara, Cornell University, Florida A&M and Northern Arizona University.
