This scholarship program is open to both graduate and undergraduate students, with precedence to the former. As with the VRG scholarship program, applicants for the Roth-Vegetarian Scholarships should be vegans who exhibit excellent academic standing. They must also be active in promoting veganism and its causes. In addition, the applicants must truly be incapable of paying for college.

Aside from VRG and the University of Hawaii, there are many other academic institutions and organizations that are willing to fund the vegan students’ pursuit of higher education such as the Humane Society of the United States.
